WINWon by closing the gap

BROWN HORNET

VS.

KATE BISHOP

THE SETUP

Kate Bishop has no powers at all. What she has is years of precision archery training, a trick-arrow arsenal built for exactly this kind of fight, and the instincts of a working detective.

Against most street-level threats, that's more than enough. Against someone who can fly, and who reads a bowstring's draw before the arrow ever leaves it, the math starts to shift.

HOW THE FIGHT PLAYS OUT

Round 01

THE FIRST VOLLEY

Kate opens from a rooftop across the street, firing a fast string of trick arrows in quick succession. Panoramic Threat Perception catches every draw before the string ever releases, and Marcus weaves through the barrage in the air without taking a single hit.

Round 02

READING THE QUIVER

Kate mixes in feints, drawing back without releasing to bait Marcus into wasting movement on shots that never come. It works for a moment, until The Hum picks up the subtle change in her breathing and stance through the vibration in the rooftop beneath her, and Marcus stops flinching at the fakes.

Round 03

CLOSING THE GAP

Marcus stops playing defense and cuts the distance in one committed dive, weaving past a net arrow meant to box him in. An explosive-tipped shot catches him with no room left to dodge, and he hardens through Adaptive Shapeshifting just before it connects, taking the blast without losing his approach. As a glue-tipped shot streaks toward him a moment later, Tweeterbell darts in and snags it out of the air with a quick adhesive tendril of his own, redirecting it harmlessly into the rooftop instead.

Round 04

NO DISTANCE LEFT

Once Marcus is inside arm's reach, the bow stops mattering. Kate is a genuinely skilled close-quarters fighter for someone without powers, but she's still working against superhuman strength at point-blank range. Marcus catches her wrist mid-reach for another arrow, holds it just firmly enough to end the exchange, and the fight is over before she can nock another shot.

THE VERDICT

WINWon by closing the gap

Marcus wins clean. Kate's kit is smarter and more varied at range than almost anyone else in this series, but the fight was always going to come down to what happens once the gap closes, and against a flier, that gap closes fast.

What This Fight Reveals

This isn't the first time Marcus has faced someone without powers. Robin beat him by studying his exact senses and building a plan around every weakness in advance. Kate fights him without that kind of preparation, relying on skill and instinct in the moment instead. The difference in outcome says less about power levels and more about something this series keeps circling back to: preparation, not raw ability, decides more fights than people expect.
